Nilambur-The land of teakwood Nilambur is a picturesque land in the Northern part of Kerala known for its serene beauty, exquisite cuisine and classic Teakwood. Nilambur is home to the oldest teak plantation in the world, called Connolly's Plot. It is claimed that the world's tallest or biggest teak tree is in the Nilambur Teak Preserve. Nilambur is also famous for its bamboos. The name "Nilambur" means "Place of Nilimba" (a Sanskrit word for bamboo).Wood has been an important construction material since humans began building shelters, houses and boats. Wood is still commonly used today in furniture making and boat construction. Teak, Rosewood and Mahogany are known to be the best choice for the manufacturing of furniture. Nilambur Teak is unique for its quality and is world famous for its golden yellow colour and beautiful grains.
